I know that novia is the word for girlfriend of a boy and amiga is girlfriend (friend) of a girl, but the guy i'm seeing called me amiga today. Can amiga also be a romantic term used by a guy for a girl he's seeing?
The guy i'm seeing called me "mi amiga" tonight and I was wondering if that is just a friendly term or is it used by some instead of novia to mean girlfriend?

Novia is spanish for girlfriend. Mi amiga = My friend (who is a girl).
I belive he is simply calling you, my friend. Which is a nice thing to say. Amiga does not only mean friend to a girl but amiga simply means a friend (who is a girl). When I marry, I will call my wife, mi amiga. Its just a nice thing to say. Better than being called my property. ![]()
