I know that novia is the word for girlfriend of a boy and amiga is girlfriend (friend) of a girl, but the guy i'm seeing called me amiga today. Can amiga also be a romantic term used by a guy for a girl he's seeing?

The guy i'm seeing called me "mi amiga" tonight and I was wondering if that is just a friendly term or is it used by some instead of novia to mean girlfriend?

Welcome to the forum amiga. In the future try to keep the title smaller than the content.:) - Yeser007, Mar 26, 2011

Novia is spanish for girlfriend. Mi amiga = My friend (who is a girl). I belive he is simply calling you, my friend. Which is a nice thing to say. Amiga does not only mean friend to a girl but amiga simply means a friend (who is a girl). When I marry, I will call my wife, mi amiga. Its just a nice thing to say. Better than being called my property. wink

¡Bien hecho! Your spouse should be your best friend, because she's (or he for the women) will be the friend you spend your life with everyday. =) - DJ_Huero, Mar 26, 2011
