Greeting each other when meeting: shaking hands, kisses, hugs...
Some people consider to be poor manners if a man shakes hands with a woman for first time... What is your way of greeting other people when meeting for first time?

I kiss and/or hug with my family and closest friends. Men usually shake hands, women hug or kiss. If a woman stretches her hand, a man should shake it. Some man still uphold the old custom of kissing a woman's hand, but I don't like it and always try to avoid it.
We shake hands, hug, kiss, the whole lot,,,, but, you have to feel the signs if the woman or man moves forward then you know you can be huggy and kissy , it is a case of being mindful of how the other person wants to respond to you , but by and large we are very acceptable to close encounters of the huggy kind . Being a very multicultural society we have adopted many customs from around the World, which i find fantastic. 
The last year, in 2009, we were told about avoiding shaking hands and kissing cheeks... also avoiding hugs to prevent SARS influence infection.
Oh, I love the kiss on the hand greeting!. I think it is charming. I must say I have only seen it in movies though! I really am unsure which country practices this greeting or if the practice of hand kissing still exists. Does any one have any experience with it?
