What is the difference between el pretérito del subjunctivo y el pluscuamperfecto del subjunctivo? Aren't they both the same thing? PLEASE HELP! Gracias!

The first is a simple tense and the second is a perfect tense.

Escribiera - hubiera escrito...supiera - hubiera sabido...fuera - hubiera ido.

(in some cases "hubiese" or even "hubiere" is used instead of "hubiera", but they are not as commonly used in everyday language).
