What does the word Livan (sp?) mean when said on the telephone?

I keep hearing the word "Livan" said when a friend answers the phone. I always think it is a name and I am being mistaken for someone else. Any ideas?

Thanks for the reply. My spanish is very minimal, but I can pick up diga or oiga on the phone. The word may be iban or some version, but it sure sounds like Livan and I want to say "It is not Livan, but me." The speaker is Cuban if that makes any difference.

No worries - can you just ask them?! - torrontes75, MAR 21, 2010

Welcome to the forum...

Could it be 'diga'? This means 'speak', or 'digame' = 'speak to me'

If you search for 'decir' in the dictionary there is a note there about how phones in Spain are often answered this way, meaning 'hello'! :-) - torrontes75, MAR 21, 2010
