Podemos decir "la carretera va al lado del rio"?

Tengo dos frases. "El rio va ........ de la carretera" "La carretera va ........... del rio" Que preposicion falta?
If i want to say that the road goes side by side with the river, how can i say it?

HI Kalli, my choice would have been junto a...but the preposition a is not given, so this is wrong.
Al lado de is correct.
