i often do a reverse inquiry when questioning a particular word, to see how it translates. i can't seem to find the right word for hickory when i do this. why?

It can be interesting to run a sentence through a machine translator, then run the results back the other direction. It almost never comes out the same. If you cycle the sentence through back and forth several times you'll wind up with something that seems to have no relation to your original.
My dictionary: Hickory => madera de nogal; nogal americano; nogal Nogal => walnut tree; hickory; walnut wood
Some dictionaries give more definitions than others.
