Si es. Culebra es mucho mas común en lugares como Costa Rica

One way you could find out if a word is masculine or feminine is by typing "the" along with the noun in the translation section.

FYI I have been told by my mexican friends never to use serpiente because it is very hard to distinguish from serviente. There is another word for snake that they use but I can't remember what it is.
