what is 'cal' lime powder within cooking

within a reciepe it ask for 100 gramos de cal. i've translated it to mean100g of lime powder. Not sure what it's refering to??

I do a lot of cookng and baking. I think "cal" i referring to baking soda.

I think that should be "una mesa" instead of "una meas" and "han sacado" instead of "man sacando".

it's all in spanish (obviously) even though it doesn't refer to 'cal' in the preparation, it asks for it in the ingredients. I'm still translating ,so not sure of the rest yet. have fun.

Se cuece el maíz siguiendo el proceso del nixtamal, se deja enfriar, después se lava bien y se muele en el molino de mano, se extiende la masa en una meas y se saca un rato al sol, enseguida se muele la canela en el metate. Posteriormente se mezcla con la masa y con la manteca y sal al gusto, se vuelve a moler en el metate y se man sacando los totopos con la mano del metate, según el tamaño deseado; una persona los acapea con una servilleta de tela y los va ponuendo en el comal caliente para su cocimento, sólo se les da una volteada.

Cal in this context does mean "lime powder" but the sort that you whitewash (paint) the exterior walls of your house! Don't know who would cook with it.

I am a cook and would love to know what "Cal" means. Can you post the whole recipe to make more sense of it?
