I enjoyed a bottle of wine from Spain last night called Vina alarde and there is a blend of 80% Tempranillo and 20% garnacha. I do not know these as grape varieties but perhaps they are? Your opinion would be appreciated. Many thanks, Bob Cork

There is no English equivalent for Tempranillo as it is a Spanish variety. Garnacha is the Spanish word for Grenache. If you are interested, you can look up both these varieties in Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tempranillo http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grenache Cheers!

HI bob, I am glad you liked our wine, tempranillo is a variety of the Rioja grape, as you sure know the Rioja wine is the most appreciated over here.

Uva tempranillo

English:

Tempranillo Red. Superb quality and very aromatic, the star of Spanish grapes. It is called Ull de Llebre in Catalonia, Cencibel in Castile-La Mancha and Madrid, and Tinto Fino and Tinto del Pais in Castile and Leon. It flourishes in Burgos, La Rioja, Alava, Cuenca and Ciudad Real. It is considered a main variety in the following DOs: Calatayud, Cigales, Conca de Barbera, Costers del Segre, La Mancha, Penedes, Ribera del Duero, Rioja, Somontano, Utiel-Requena, Valdepenas, and Vinos de Madrid.
