I want to say, "I remember fondly those summer days of shelling (better word here?) peas." I am writing a story about my grandparents in Spanish. All help is greatly appreciated.

I'm sorry...try starting this differently, it sounds corny, particularly because there is nothing romantic, poetic or nostalgic about shelling peas. (My honest opinion).
