El asistaba la universidad para educacion primaria. Is this correct if I want to say 'he attended college for elementary education'?

Verbs in -ar (eg. amar, andar,...) form the imperfect in -aba.
Verbs in -er and -ir (eg. beber, asistir) form the imperfect in -ía. You have to say "asistía a..." and remove that "Él" at the beginning.
