Why Men Don't Listen to Women /La voz femenina agota al hombre
It turns out that the male brain actually has to work harder to decipher what a woman is saying because it initially interprets the voice as music. Since it is not really music, the brain then must go "into overdrive" to determine what is really being said. Apparently the male brain is "not designed" to listen to female voices!
I see now why nobody listens to me...

Maybe it's because females speak with a forked tongue so whatever language is used, the content always has a Weird Second Agenda.
¡Jesús! Estos monos......
jeje, we do not! Most of us...or let me say, some of us definitely are too straight forward than is good for us!
As we humans are meant to procreate it would be odd if a male brain reacted to a female voice and a male voice in the same way - no matter what was being said.
Heidita who said the brain, male or female, was "designed".'
Hard to believe!
Rather than looking for physiological brain differences, I'd look into lifetime patterns. When one of my grandparents became almost completely senile, he could only listen to, or understand, those he hated or loved the most; everyone else didn't appear to be there. We seem to forget -or ignore- about brain plasticity: the way we think modifies the structure of our own brains. I've personally met two people who had half of the brain surgically removed (both face to face), and they were gradually (and slowly) recovering all the functionality that they lost from the missing hemisphere... with the aid of the only remaining one. So much for theories about where is what in the brain...
I don't like French; I personally find it ugly. But give me a cute French girl with a cute voice, and all my prejudices about French go away.
Scientific studies? Please!

The research was done to test a hypothesis which attempts to explain why schizophrenics perceive gender in their auditory hallucinations.
Which in itself is an interesting story. Why a male voice?
It has absolutely nothing to do with a man being bored by his mother-in-law's voice.
Let's ask some married guys....
I suppose that would be true Heitor!
Well you do see all kinds of stuff like that, but I guess not everything is true.
It's not a matter of it being true or false, it's just that it doesn't mean anything the average newspaper reader can understand. Worse, it doesn't mean anything the average newspaper writer can understand!

I love those scientific articles for their ability to make commonsense sound so alien. Here is an excerpt:
The perception of female voices, when compared with male voices, affected greater activation of the right anterior superior temporal gyrus, near the superior temporal sulcus. Similarly, male voice perception activated the mesio-parietal precuneus area. These different gender associations could not be explained by either simple pitch perception or behavioural response because the activations that we observed were conjointly activated by both 'gender-apparent? and 'gender-ambiguous? voices. The results of this study demonstrate that, in the male brain, the perception of male and female voices activates distinct brain regions
All it is really saying is that people have an innate ability to distinguish between male and female voices, and that it is not based on pitch. Duh!
Sorry Heidi but whatever you read in the Daily Mail is nonsense written by journalists who have no clue what they are writing about. The research paper says nothing about "music" or even "man's ability to concentrate on what women are saying". That stuff is just pop-science rubbish.
Well you do see all kinds of stuff like that, but I guess not everything is true. I don't know about that but it was interesting to read.
That was a interesting lesson story, Heidita.
Me gusta cuando callas porque estas como ausente!!!
buen poema!!
No wonder, I love the tone of female voices, it is music!Favorito!!! I haven't seen you for ages!
Welcome back
