Una noche Arturo y sus hermanos vienen a buscarla;
están arrojando piedras en el tejado de la choza.
One night, Arturo and his brothers come looking for her;
they chip stones onto the hut's clay tile roof shingles.
Con palabras bruscas y suaves, Arturo aleja las objeciones de
Alegunda; sus maneras lisas aparentan respeto, sonríe bonito.
By brusque suave words, Arturo wards off Alegunda's objections;
his silvery way is apparently respectful; he smiles very nicely.
Ella bloquea el camino, él introduce a su hermano "recomendándole";
se aleja 20 metros del camino y que salte sobre la cerca de piedra.
She bars the way, he introduces his brother "recommending him";
retreating 20 meters a way, vaults catlike over the stone wall.
El dice, "señora, señora, no se ofenda, sólo déjeme verla"
He says, "madam madam do not take offense, only let me see her"
ÿl se le acerca, continúa convenciendo a la señora en el patio;
usando una lenguaje suave y proyectandole su presencia física.
He approaches her, continues convincing the señora on the patio;
using smooth talking words and projecting his physical presence.
"Yo tengo cosas importantes para ella; que tengo que regresarselas"
"I have some important things of hers; I must give them back to her"
El es un tipo liso y listo; macho para el conflicto, para el peligro;
Alegunda trata de hablar con él afuera en el patio pero no tiene caso.
He is a cool slick young dude; a macho for conflict, for danger;
Alegunda tríes to talk him out of her patio but that is useless.
Le dice, "¿PORQUE se alarma? No voy a hacerle daño, no la voy a dañar"
He says, "WHY are you alarmed? I mean no harm, I will not harm you."
ÿl no está siendo agresivo y grosero, sólo lo mínimo para obtener lo
que quiere, acostumbrarla a ella de la idea que está platicando con él
He is not rudely aggressive, just the minimum to get what he wants;
accustoming the woman to the idea that she is discoursing with him.
Dice, "solo deja que hablo con ella un minuto, ¿no le hago un daño"
Says, "only let me speak to her for a minute, I will do her no harm"
Alegunda toma toda la dignidad de su venerable aparíencia; parada
frente al camino del montador hacia donde Azucena esta escondida.
Alegunda gathers every bit of her dignity as a venerable matron;
standing in the bullrider's way to where young Azucena is hidden.
ÿl dice, "sólo un momento déjame pasar señora, por favor déjame verla"
He says, "only for a moment let me pass ma'am, please let me see her"
La viejita se mueve para cortar su movimiento pero él se mueve más
cerca a ella, todavía de manera amable; ríendo, él la hace a un lado.
The elderly lady moved to cut off his movement but he moves closer
to her, yet not in any threatening way; laughing he moves her over.
Diciendo, "Mira madrecita, por favor, solo quiero verla por un segundo"
Saying "look little mother please, I only want to see her for a second"
Como si Alegunda fuera su pareja estraña en el baile de la cancha de
basketbol, Arturo la levanta, poniendo otra vez sus pies en el suelo.
As if Alegunda were his odd partner at the dance on a basketball court
Arturo swings her frail frame around replacing her feet back on ground.
Le dice "no se enoje, señora: honestamente no quiero ni deseo ofenderte"
He says "don't get mad, ma'am: honestly I have no desire to offend you"
Sonríe gentilmente, no corre hacia el interior, ahora ha ganado;
sus hermanos estan entrando el patio, estan parados atrás de él.
He smiles gently, he does not rush inside, now he had already won;
the brothers are coming inside the patio, were standing behind him.
