| I started learning Spanish in 2000. I studied books for a while and then befriended my Mexican neighbors. I later dated a Mexican for three years and we always spoke Spanish. I sound like a Mexican when I speak and natives often ask me what part of Mexico I'm from. However, I am very aware that there is a lot that I don't know and, though I can pass for fluent in many situations, advanced-intermediate would be more accurate. I had spent a couple of years not speaking Spanish regularly but this year I have been volunteering to direct and teach an English for Spanish speakers program and I'm enjoying having regular opportunities to speak in Spanish again. | |
