| We moved from California, USA to Panama 9 years ago. We live in a very small Spanish only speaking community. The folks here speak campo and my wife and I speak English to each other most of the time, but try to speak Spanish - we just fall back into English when we can't express ourselves in Spanish. My short term memory is just about totally shot, which I believe explains my difficulty in picking up the language better. I can usually speak well enough to get my idea across, but too many times people say they understand, shake their head in agreement, but really are just being polite and don't really understand. | |
