| I am a professional mental health counselor (trying to retire), working here in Colombia with my husband, for our church. I didn't speak any spanish when I got here and I didn't know the difference between a beginner, an intermediate, or an advanced speaker of Spanish. Now I have been here 19 months and I find that even though I can get my wants and wishes known and can understand most of what is going on in a conversation, I am only starting to scratch the surface of what I feel I want to be able to do, say and understand in this language. We will be leaving Colombia in a few short months and I am already sad. We are planning to stop in Guatemala for a month on the way home to spend 6 hours a day for 4 weeks in intensive study. I hope I can consolodate what I have learned on my own through this and other sites. | |
