La forma negativa should not se transforma en shouldn't.

1. (expressing obligations, recommendations, instructions)

you should do it at once -> deberías hacerlo inmediatamente
you shouldn't laugh at him -> no deberías reírte de él
you should have come earlier -> deberías haber venido antes
he shouldn't have told them -> no debería habérselo dicho
a present?, oh you shouldn't have! -> ¿un regalo? ¡no tenías que haberte molestado!
you should have seen the expression on his face! -> ¡tendrías que haber visto la cara que puso!
you should read the instructions carefully -> lea detenidamente las instrucciones

2. (expressing probability)

the weather should improve from now on -> a partir de ahora, el tiempo debería mejorar
she should have arrived by this time -> a estas horas ya debe de haber llegado

3. (in exclamations, in rhetorical questions)

why should you suspect me? -> ¿por qué habrías de sospechar de mí?
who should I meet but Martin! -> y ¿a quién me encontré? ¡a Martin!
he apologized — I should think so, too! -> se disculpó — ¡es lo mínimo que podía hacer!

4. (in subordinate clauses)

he ordered that they should be released -> ordenó que los liberaran
she insisted that he should wear his hair short -> insistió en que llevase el pelo corto

5. (in conditional clauses)

I should have seen you earlier -> yo debería haberle visto a usted más temprano
She should be there by now -> ella debería haber llegado ya
Should he not come in a day or two -> si no viniese dentro de uno o dos días

pret. de SHALL. Indica un tiempo condicional y en general se usa en los mismos casos en que se emplea shall en el futuro de indicativo, aunque el uso de should no es tan fijo como el de shall. Should, se usa muy frecuentemente como verbo defectivo con la significación de deber o haber de., ¿por qué lo voy a hacer?
