The harsh and rough sound of r between two vowels, in the middle of simple words, is always expressed by double rr; thus, barraca, correcto.R is used as a contraction of reprobar, like A for aprobar, in voting for degrees in universities; it is also used as a contraction for real, royal, and for reverendo, reverend.
