CAUCUS Un caucus es una reunión de militantes de cada uno de los principales partidos estadounidenses (republicanos y demócratas) para elegir al candidato presidencial. Se trata de un proceso que cuenta con varias etapas. En primer lugar, se reúnen los electores registrados en cada partido para debatir la designación de los delegados. Estos delegados participarán a su vez en otros caucuses de condado y posteriormente en el estatal, donde se eligen a los representantes que asistirán a la convención nacional, en la que se elige el candidato a la presidencia. El primer caucus oficial tiene lugar en Iowa, seguido del de New Hampshire, y los resultados obtenidos en ambos suelen ser decisivos para la campaña de los candidatos. Este proceso es más largo y complicado que el de los comicios primarios, donde los electores se pronuncian directamente por uno de los aspirantes a la candidatura de cada partido.
