I'm understanding everything! What I am so happy about is I aint having to pay a thing! 1.12 For Me! smile

Eric, may I suggest that you use grammatically correct English when writing in this forum so as not to give the wrong impression to those who are learning proper English; i.e. not ending a sentence with a preposition and the use of "aint".

Well, I think there are two sides to this issue. The one you stated and the other side that pops up when ""inappropriate language is used". Not everyone comes to this forum to study grammar and learn the "proper" use of the language. Many come here to learn how to converse with their friends and colleagues. Not allowing "street language" or vulgar (common; not profane) language may be doing them a disservice. Anyone that is going to speak English is going to hear the word ain't so he shouldn't be denied learning how it is used. It should be pointed out to the student that it considered to be less than correct grammar and told of the stigma that can accompany its use, but not shielded from exposure to it. How about helping me down off this soap box? I don't like heights.

Hola! smile

I am on 1.7 but I am not doing them consecutively, since I use them to complement my lessons at the university. Eg. I've done 'directions' and clothing since this comes rather earlier than tenses in a 'real' course. It's a great way to learn the otherwise boring vocabulary that you get at the lectures...
I've done also something from 2 as I recall.

Yeah, "ain't" is common spoken English but not written. A simple replacement for many words like "isn't(is not)" "am/are not" Maybe more common for American English? We do seem to use it too much in the U.S. mainly because its a simple replacement or substitution.

  1. Nonstandard except in some dialects. am not; are not; is not.

  2. Nonstandard. have not; has not; do not; does not; did not.
^^ dictionary.com Also included in it's definition, "ain't" is considered an informal use of these words..... Probably limit its use but isn't incorrect grammar depending on "dialect" or location of the user.

HI everybody, hmmm, I am on Spanish---|---|-- jeje, don't really know the lesson I am on grin

I do wonder, Eric, why did you use at here I would have used on.

well, about the correct use of English, we often have this dilemma on vocabulary questions where I think "street language" is not appropiate, as there are many learners of both Spanish and English on this site. However, on a thread on this category I think it is just as well if we are not so strict-

Eric is a nice young man smile and I am happy to see such young people to take a pleasure not only in learning Spanish but also in participating on a serious language forum instead of only playing silly computer games.

...instead of only playing silly computer games.

You'd better hope that all the gamers are busy doing just that or you're going to hear an earful.

I have a list of words that I am working on.
I am working at/on compiling a new list.

Where are you at [in the list]?
I am at the top/beginning of the list.
I am at the bottom/end of the list.
I am on problem 3.
I am at problem 3.

I wouldn't say that they are synonymous as one sounds better than the other in certain contexts but the usage is similar.

the at is at what location are you in within the activity. I'm at the next-to-the-last sentence. I'm on the next-to-the-last sentence.
