Question

from a poem, a song lyric actually:
A vos te hai pesar
What is the word hai? it occurred to me that it might be a spelling of hay, but I can't translate it.

That sounds like from Chile to me. They have a lot of these kind of slang words.
My guess is that "hai" means "ha de"
Then I think it is:
"recién te ha de pesar".
and the other:
"y a vos te ha de pesar"

I'm wondering if it could be a regional thing because the word is repeated numerous times and is in more than one song, I also got hits when I googled it, but none that told me the meaning. but I think you're right about the meaning. Here's a stanza:

Cuando me vaya y no vuelva,
recién te hai pesar.
Recién entonces, ingrata,
comprenderás lo perdido,
y a vos te hai pesar.

The whole poem or song sounds Argentinian to me. Possibly Colombian? Not from Spain. We do not use recién or vos.

it's a song of Atahualpa Yupanqui (Argentinian), but it isn't one of his. It's an anonymous cancion andina. Not sure of the country of origin.
