Lucas is a gorgeous Malamute. He looks like a wolf and weighs close to a hundred pounds (almost 45 kilos). He was a dog I sometimes walked, helped to bathe, and cared for when his owner was away. The first time I walked Lucas alone he lunged ahead and dropped me to the street. I weigh about 58 kilos (less than 130 lbs).

I taught Lucas to heel across streets, etc., and over time he learned my strength and speed limits when we would run the streets together, Lucas leading on a taught leash.

Those were the days.....

This is the story in English. I wonder...why is the tense changed? does this dog still exist? If so the tense is not correct and I need to know for the correction.

Thank you, Heidita. The reason the tenses are different at the start is that your version is copied from La Pod's quote of the story. But 15 minutes had yet to pass and I was still editing. I decided to begin the story in the present tense, since, afaik, Lucas is still living.

Here is the story in English as it appears now:

How about: La primera vez que anduvimos juntos por nosotros mismos.

Should it be preterit or imperfect? I'm not sure...

Anyways:

That's a pretty sled dog. That's why he was pulling you around, he thought you were a sled. You should have worn skates or got a skateboard.
