in Ecuador acolar means more or less to help someone out. to give a hand. Its used VERY often in southern ecuador. and when i think of the etymology i usually attribute it to the word "cola" or a line. acolar, is then to get in line... or to be ready and waiting in line to help someone out. Im not sure if this is really a correct etymology, but it works for me smile

And what is your question'

"acolito", is really the most common form, as in southern Ecuador, nearly everything is used in the diminutive form.

as in "acolitame con estos deberes; que no entiendo el significado de xxx" or "acolame a la tienda para comprar unas bielas" (bielas = cerveza).
