I'm looking for an appropriate translation of this legal term. Here is the context:

Luego de lo anterior se vinculó mediante diligencia de versión libre al denunciado señor (nombre omitido para protejer la identidad), quien manifestó, haber comprado el inmueble por el cual ha sido objeto de denuncia, pero que es el único propietario del mismo, toda vez que cuando se casó con la hija de la denunciante, (nombre omitido) firmaron contrato matrimonial donde se estipulaba que los bienes de su propiedad continuarían así, por cuanto a él le interesaba protejer los intereses económicos de su hijo mayor y de su nieta y ahora los de su pequeña (nombre omitido) de quien tiene la custodia otorgada por autoridad norteamericana.

Is there a sentence before this one? The dictionary gives "writ" for diligencia, but I'm having a hard time figuring out what se vinculó refers to.

Maybe it means that the person in question was tied or linked to having committed a certain 'act'.

Monk, is the quote from Colombia? It sounds like diligencia de versión libre might be a sort of open or special court session there (still not sure of the best way to translate)

Thanks, guys. Great replies. I should have been more specific. I was confused by the term "versión libre." But thanks to certain answers and certain links provided...

mediante diligencia de versión libre = by (means of) spontaneous declaration proceedings
