Is this the correct way to say, "Whats up'" (the greeting).

And is there a way to type an -e (or any vowel) with an accent on your key board?

Thank you!

In Mexico, you'll hear ¿Qué onda, güey?

You can type in Spanish by activating an IME in Windows.

Hi James,

I thought that ¿Qué pasa? is Mexican slang, no?

I agree with you James--it is said that way mostly in Mexico--but 'reading' you quote that greeting made me laugh out loud. Hehehe. Sara, I came across the link below. It should help.

No, it's not slang, Mexican or otherwise. It's just standard Spanish, meaning "What is happening'" It is indeed used as a greeting, but it's not as colloquial as "What's up'" My version might be closer in register to "Wassup, player'"

I use: ¿Qué tal? = What's up? Like "Bugs Bunny". This is common usage.

Note that ¿qué pasa? could be understood as what's wrong?
Other ways to say it:
¿Cómo te va?
¿Qué hubo?
¿Qué hay'

¿Qué hubo'

Sí, y en México también se dice ¡quihubole! y ¡quihubo!, las cuales vienen de ¿Qué hubo? Las dos son maneras de decir "What's up'"

"¿Qué onda'" would be a better way to say it. It's way more common (here in Mexico at least)

If your operating system is Windows, check out this URL:
http://spanish.about.com/od/writtenspanish/a/typingaccents_2.htm.
It explains how to enter (type in) any of the spanish characters you are likely to need using the "Alt" key and numeric keypad in your keyboard. ¡Bueno suerte! áÁéÿ etc.
