Can someone provide a Spanish equivalent for this phrase? Also, does "no me defiendo bien en espanol" mean "I do not respond well in Spanish"?

Thanks.

Actually, I would say, 'no me defiendo bien en español,' is somewhat an equivalent for, 'my Spanish is rusty.' Literally it's, 'I can't defend myself well in Spanish,' meaning, 'I don't speak it well.'
