ASK A QUESTION Inside and outside

Ideally:
está fuera de la casa (static verb)
está dentro de la casa (static verb)
ven afuera de la casa (verb of motion)
ven adentro de la casa (verb of motion)
How then would one say outdoors as in outdoor pursuits. weplayed sport indoors because of the weather.
Or is that the same as inside or outside
Technically...the rule is you can normally just drop the "de" if the Preposition of Location is at the end of a sentence or clause.
For example: "encima de" becomes:
El libro está encima de la mesa.
El libro está encima.
But for every rule, there is usually exceptions as with this rule...
The following (4) terms must come at the end of a sentence or clause and cannot be followed by a noun. Usually the object of the preposition is understood.
downstairs, Underneath ---|- abajo
inside ---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---| adentro
outside ---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|- afuera
upstairs, above ---|---|---|---|---|---| arriba
Examples:
Estamos adentro.
Ellos están afuera.
guillermo
Look at this discussion. They suggest "deportes al aire libre" for outdoor sports.

I'm just sure there was another discussion about indoor sports, but it eludes me.

I think I know what you're trying to say, but it is incorrect to state unequivocally that these four words "must come at the end of a sentence or clause." And while these (and many other such Spanish words) must take a preposition (de in this case) when preceding a noun, they are often used with nouns in this way.
Example:
Se cayó adentro del pozo.
He fell into the well.
