Is Everyone Too Shy to Speak Spanish With Each Other?

Question

There seems to be a reluctance from people to actually put their feet in the water and actually start using what little they have learnt by talking to each other.
I have bought a microphone in order to visit the chat room. Not necessarily to speak Spanish with Spanish people but just to practice speaking and listening Spanish. Alas there is never anyone there.
The text chat is predominantly in English and is impossible to keep up with general conversation while trying to think and type what little you know in Spanish and you end up just joining in in English for the chat rather than the learning..
I have met a couple of native Spanish speakers though and record bits of English onto an MP3 file with a transcript to help them and they have promised to return the favour, which is great.
But surely some of us would like to do this with other beginners, no?
So if anyone has recording capabilities and wants to transfer audio files with transcript or translation please contact me or lets get a group together to go to the video chat room and have fun using the language we crave to speak.

Sorry I missed your discussion and suggestion.
Does it really matter what level we are at podenquera. Helping you helps me and so on. Teaching can be the best thing for learning, in my opinion.
Having no one to test out the spoken is a killer no?
I can understand the written and fill in the gaps and can write a bit with the help of the conjugator and the dicctionary, but there is nowhere to be corrected in the spoken.
If anyone wants to put me on msn or meet in the chat room at a set time then that would be great and the more that do the more it will get busier than it is usually.

I agree. Lets just get in there at agreed to times. How about since Harry is in UK and the time difference and all, how about 6 pm Pacific Time in California; use this link to know what time it is in your place and see if you are even up and out of bed at 6 or 7 pm Pacific time in California. Thats where I am ... Or we can get together at 3 or 4 a.m. since i get up at 2:30 to do homework and stuff.

Another possibility is to open a private chat room on the chat page. On the open chat we speak either English or Spanish, but for beginners it is really difficult to follow as we speak really fast and this chat is very fast.
I have created a private chat room, for example, look on my page. There I sometimes have private conversations with some people. This can be done by anybody.

So Harry, you could open a page for yourself and on that chat only Spanish could be spoken. I would be pleased to pop by and help.

6-7 pacific time is 2-3 am here in UK and sweden is an hour later

If you have a microfone plugged in and you go to the video room it will aske you when entering for permission to access you microphone and then you off

After you click on "Video Chat", it will take a little bit to load the "tokbox." Then it will ask you, "Allow cdn.tokbox.com to access your camera and microphone'" Check "allow" and then click close. Make sure your microphone is on.

well everything went well for our first go .
In the end both la podequera y vikingo managed to get in and the chat was good with a bit of spanish and a bit of english yippee

If your microphone is a USB device, I'd suggest the following (based on problems that I experienced).
With the microphone connected:
1) Close down your browser and then restart it. Log into the site and go to the chat area.
2) Shut down and then restart your computer (if #1 doesn't work), start the browser, etc.

In the chatroom window (upper 2/3, roughly) (which may need to be activated by clicking o the "arrowish" icon)
there's a moving-bars graph to indicate the volume of the sound. This should move when you make noises (even if you're the only person present).
