It all depends on the context. Show us the sentence you are trying to write.

Wasn't writing a sentence, just trying to determine the difference between, iwas going ,and,i used to go in spanish,if there isa difference. How about;when i used to go to the shops, they were open until eight.(checked a book that mentions, soler, the imperfect of,and the infinitive,so is that;solia ir or what.'

Cuando iba (past tense) a las tiendas
When I went to the shops

when I used (past) to go to the shops
Cuando acostumbraba (past) ir a las tiendas

Si es en present tense seria asi: Cuando voy a las tiendas.

Cuando voy a las tiendas gasto mucho dinero. (present) When I go shopping I spend a lot of money.
Cuando iba a las tiendas gastaba mucho dinero (past) When I went/used to go shopping I spent a lot of money.

Si,una leccion muy buena.Creo que entiendo ahora, pero encontre uno error en la leccion.Es asi;cuando voy a las tiendas gasto mucho dinero. No es verdad,no gasto mucho dinero, porque no tengo mucho dinero.Una poca broma,no es muy divertida,yo se,sin dinero no es muy divertido.thanks a million.

Sorry, but I missed that. Somehow I'm not familiar with the verb you're using. Is it SOLIR, SOLER, or what? What does it mean'

john
yo iba, the imperfective indicative of the verb ir, actually has both the meanings you mentioned in your question, ie
yo iba - i was going and i used to go. it is the same for both meanings.
