How would you say "pack animal" like in ....human beings are pack animals, so to be ostracized from the pack is the ultimate rejection..."

At first I thought you meant pack animal as in bestia de carga, but now I see what you mean.

I think I'd say:

Los seres humanos andan in jaurías (como los lobos/animales),...

But I think we can also say animales gregarios to mean animals that live in groups.

Aristotle referred to/defined us as "political animals" with much the same sense." What about "herd instinct"? (then one might say "human beings have strong herd instincts ...").
