We are studying direct object pronouns. How would I answer the above question in the positive (sí)? As far as I can tell, "conocen" could mean "Do you (plural) know..." or "Do they know...". I think from the ellos they mean "they know", but am not sure. I put it into the translators, but the resulting translations did not make sense.

It only means "ellos"= they know

The verb conjugation is very clear in Spanish, only one ending for each person. YOU would have been (plural) conocéis

So a positive anser: Si, la conocen.

That is misleading, because conocen can also mean ustedes conocen, which does indeed translate to "you." And in much of Latin America, this applies both to the formal and the informal forms.

Because there is ambiguity in this conjugation, the subject sometimes must be indicated, as is the case here.

Thanks both. We are studying in a book that does not usually use Spain Spanish. Though it mentions the vosotros form for somethings, we are not supposed to use it. I probably should mentioned that. smile Thanks again.
