¿ Lleva usted un sombrero para protección del sol porque la moda?

I asked this question of a student in my class but used (o) instead of porque. I do not know if the teacher meant porque or por qué but why is o (or) not used '

The whole sentence sounds foreign to me. I'd say:

¿Lleva (usted) (un) sombrero para protegerse del sor, o por moda'

I think it should be porqué, because of fashion. If you use "o" I feel it alters the meaning of the sentence, in that you are asking a question about the wearing of the hat for two different reasons. Are you wearing the hat to protect yourself from the sun OR for fashion. With porqué la moda, you are protecting yourself fashionably, ie you could use an umbrella to protect yourself or even a handerchief as some English people have done in the past. Not very fashionable. That´s my take anyway.

¿Y la sustitución de la ¨r¨por la ¨la¨ es debido a la influencia de la pronunciación de los gitanos que son tan numerosos en Andalucia or por un simple error de teclar (o por influencia matrimonial)'
