"El, por su parte, la amaba profundamente, sin darlo a conocer. Is the last part saying with out letting her know, thats just a guess. Can someone help me out

No, but that's a good guess. It actually means he loved her deeply without realizing it. The key here is the word darlo.
Darse cuenta
or
Darse conocer
means to informe one's self, or, as we would say in English, to become aware of something.

The expression is "dar (algo) a conocer", and it means "to announce", "to make someone know something".
P.S. It is "sentence", not "sentance".
