Exacto.. aquí en México usamos la palabra "mande" para decir "perdon'"
Es una forma muy amable de decir que nos interesa lo que esta diciendo y que estamos a su disposición.
=)
I am from Mexico and mande is a very common word. The word cames from the times of the spanish conquer. It is consider sign of well educated people use it. As a matter or fact, it is not acceptable that you answer "what?" if somebody calls you, the correct way is answer "mande". In job interviews, with your friends, everywhere you use the "mande" word. Recently a close friend of mine from Argentina , who has her little girl in same school as mine, ask me about the word "mande". She ask me why did we answer with that word instead of what. And suddenly her little daughter answer " no se dice que, se dice mande " "dont say what, say mande " Since kinder garden the teachers teach you to use the word.
Hope this helps, sorry for my english.
Mande means at your service and is used as a very polite, respectful way of responding, such as when a relative or person in authority calls your name, the response is Mande? It is a formal and well known response when being addressed. As I remember, the accent (not slant) is naturally on the syllable prior to the the last syllable ending in a vowel, Another term used this way is the response Diga? It i used as a response also, such as:
Jesse.
Diga?
Deme su panuelo.
There is also a very subtle difference, as in the responses above members have given, re: Mande. I have used it as a means to indicate, Yes? And also,
Deme su mano.
MANDE?
If reply is really emphatic, the response could be interpreted as meaning,
What! (you insolent person!)
So, there are many ways to go with the usage of this word.
El unico lugar que he oido "mande" es Mexico. Quiere decir - perdon, como? Y no necesita un accento por que cualquier palabra que termine en un vocal o "n" o "s" se pone enfasis en la penultima silaba. Por eso, la "a" tiene enfasis sin accento. Tiene sentido? Siento no poner los accentos aqui, mi ordenador no puede.
It is like a respectful way of saying "what". You use it when you are talking to someone older than you or someone you respect.
Being reared by a Chihuahuan grandmother, I heard "mande" countless times, but it was almost always my abuelita trying to correct and teach me the proper way to respond to an adult/stranger when you didn't quite hear all that that person had to say... I can still hear her voice to this day when I would respond with some other word or phrase and immediately my abeulita would practically scream: "Mande, se dice mande." I finally got the picture and though she was insistent on this custom, I still miss her dearly... ![]()
We use this word a lot in mexico when we didnt hear the person correctly or didnt understand ... It's like saying: What?, can you repeat.
I also need to know what it means. Used as a question. The conversation is:
"Deme su mano," she said
"Mande'"
"Deme su mano."
- Give me your hand. What? Give me your hand - Rey_Mysterio Feb 24, 2011 flag
In this case it would be simular to saying-"What'" ( "I didn't understand you" )
The verb is mandar (to order or mandate). Mande is the ordering form for first person singular (? sorry, my grammer terminology is VERY rusty) form...ie., "order me'". It is used in south america a lot...when someone calls you you say "mande'" or like in this case she says "mande'" "what did you say'"
Thanks for the help. I think that was what I was getting as the general gyst of it, but it wasn't changing in the translator, so I just wanted some help.
I read what other people said about "mande" and apparenty it means different things in other places.
Que tipo del restaurante es? yo no se.
