Volante, meaning of name given to a small Spanish cannon
We shoot a small bronze Spanish cannon whose given name, engraved onto its muzzle, is "Volante." I can find many different meanins for that word, and I am not sure which one would best fit this small bronze cannon, made at Seville in 1795.
Here is a short video showing us firing "Volante"

That name, "cañón volante" (flying tube), occurred to the tubes that were movable.
In this web you can read more information ...

Thanks Enrique. I found the part that refers. I used babel to translate:
"All that armament is lost now. The tubes that we see in the Museum of the Bishopric, are not in their original position and are of another time. These were brought of Tampico, the last century and were in the corners of the Seat of the Civil School, until 40 years ago (the cricket) In spite of the strong protection of artillery whereupon it counted, the city had to be evacuated in that war, by the appearance of two new inventions into the hands of the North American army. On the one hand "the flying tube", that had its name to mobility. Small bronze piece of caliber 2", that was dismantled and been able to be loaded in shoulders of two soldiers. On the other hand, the appearance of the pistol revolver of 5 shots of caliber 0,44"(Colt 44) that decimated in a day, to oficialía of the Mexican cavalry (They fought with saber)."
I see (the cricket) in that paragraph. Do you know what that phrase is doing there, I don't understand when it is translated into English.
I am very familiar with US artillery of that period, and I can't identify the model they call "the flying tube" so I've asked about it on a specialized military website.
I am not completely sure, but I believe that it refers to the name, better nickname, of someone called "el grillo" possibly because this personage was a so good singer as these insects (crickets).
