ASK A QUESTION What can this forum offer me?
I'm trying to touch up on my spanish / castilian because I thinking about taking a year or two to go to college in Lima Peru where my family is. (Mira Flores) - It's a beautiful place which for the most part has some of the most laid-back people I enjoy being around.
I'd type this in spanish, but I have to leave - I swear I know this and that from growing up in east L.A. / being the only one in my whole family who doesn't speak it fluent..

Welcome to the forum. This site can be especially helpful for someone like yourself, since most of your family speaks fluently. I don't know how much you need to improve, but I would start with the Learn Videos and work your way through them.
I would then suggest that you become actively involved in this forum. Once you start communicating with people here in Spanish, you will improve quickly. Also, there are people here ready to answer any questions you might have along the way.
It is always great to have people/family in your life who speak fluently. Practice with them as much as you possibly can and you will see that you improve rapidly.
¡Buena Suerte!

Bienvenido Kris,
This forum can offer you a lengthy instructional series in proper Spanish. Each lesson includes a 15-20 minute video with a very pleasant Spanish teacher, followed by flash card drills and some testing. If you zip through it you can move on. If you have troulbe with it you can stick with that lesson until you've mastered it.
For building your vocabulary, it offers flashcard sets that have been created by other people, or you can easily make your own onsite. Even if you make your own, the site recognizes the words and gives them audio. Very cool.
It has a great dictionary that includes the major conjugations for verbs on the dictionary page. A separate conjugation tool lists all forms.
It has a couple of ways to practice your Spanish, one is here in the Answers section, and another is the chat room.
Also, here in the Answers section we are constantly being given new resources from our peers. And if you know a little bit about Spanish, you can teach it to others here. Nothing helps you learn better than teaching!
So the resources here for you are many. I hope you find a home with us.
Well, it can offer a lot. And the people here are willing to help. Yes, we sometimes quarrel (or, to sound more euphemistically, have different opinions
), but it only spices up the discussion and also gives you the opportunity to choose (e.g. between more colloquial and formal language).
The lessons given by Paralee are also very useful and easy to understand. I recommend the grammar reference and the dictionary. And if you encounter any problems or notice an error, feel free to inform others.
It's a place to help and be helpful.
If you have a question that you can't find the answer to online or in books you can just ask. Also, if you have a minute you can help other people.
:o)
