You would use "me pregunto".

verbo transitivo

preguntarse

  • one wonders whether… -> me pregunto si…
  • I was wondering if you were free tonight -> se me ocurre que quizá no tengas nada que hacer esta noche

verbo transitivo

(ask oneself) preguntarse;

  • I wonder why I bother -> no sé por qué me molesto;

  • I wonder if o whether he'll be there -> me pregunto si estará;

Got the pregunto yo from a Juanes song - warrenmarsha

Qué pasó pregunto yo

Pregunto yo qué pasó en el mundo hoy

Y qué en todos los diarios yo leo las mismas noticias de horror

Vidas que callan sin razón

What happened, I ask

I ask, what happened in the world today

In all the newspapers I read the same horror stories

Lives that fall without reason

Both are correct! That just means that you are talking to yourself, you are thinking with yourself.

  • Me pregunto si debería o no ir a la casa de María esta noche. (I wonder if I should or should not go to Maria's house tonight. or I wonder whether I should go to Maria's house tonight.)
  • ¿Porqué pasó? ¡Me pregunto yo! (Why did it happen? I ask myself)
