I'm a bit indecisive about something. In the sentence, "El que amo me mentió." Should it be "al que" because he's the one I love, or should it be just "El que" because he's the one doing the lying? I'm unsure. Any help es appreciated. Gracias!

I think it is this: El me mentió - He lied to me, but by adding que amo you are saying:

He whom I love lied to me.

An example la mujer que amo: the woman I love. Notice you do not say a la mujer.

Que is the direct object pronoun refering to él the subject of mentir.

  • thank you, I was unsure about which it would be marked as, thanks alot! - Himself12794 Feb 14, 2012 flag

I want to say "A él que le amo"... but that's just the most formal, appropriate way of saying it I can think of you wouldn't really need the "le" I don't think, just a guess
