my students use a word or phrase that sounds like "deja" and it seems to mean "idiot" (though not directed at me). what are they saying'

It is a brief way of saying
Dejame
Deja las cosas así...
Dejame en paz
Dejame eso
Etc?
It depends on the situation

Yeah, I agree that that is the most likely answer. But since the word is feminine, I think it might also be rendered as "bitch" in English in the same situation.

well my name is deja and i dont think that it means the b word it means already, and yes its french, u no my friend calls me deha! wink
