How do you pronounce Gatota? Am I supposed to put el gatota or la gatota, as in the Cat?

  • It's el gato (male cat) or la gata (female cat), not gatota. - Eddy Feb 11, 2012 flag

El gatito, or specifically if known to be a female kitten, la gatita, is pronounced by rolling a ¨Ha¨ sound in the back of the throat in a guttural manner for the ¨ga¨, a sharp "t", then an extended "ee"for "i", ending in a short "to"as in "toe".

  • 'r' before 'a' is not guteral, in fact, it's very similar to the "hard 'g'" of English. - samdie Feb 11, 2012 flag
  • @juanito - you are describing how to pronounce "g" only when it's followed by e or i. That's not the case here. - pesta Feb 11, 2012 flag
  • The "g" sound that we call soft is the same as the one you call hard in English: the one in "gate". - lazarus1907 Feb 11, 2012 flag
  • I refer to Castillian Spanish where the "G" sound is not at all like the English "G· as in Gate in this case. - juanito11 Feb 13, 2012 flag
