I am horrible at Spanish and I am currently in Spanish 2, I barely passed Spanish 1 and I can't switch out of it, back to Spanish 1. How can I learn Spanish fast, yet well? Thank you.

Yes Samiam, SpanishDict is an excellent site to learn Spanish grin

How quickly you learn will depend to a great extent on You wink

Many factors influence the speed at which people make progress:

1 Your level of motivation

2 Your current exposure to the language. You will learn much faster by living in the country where your chosen/target language is spoken and interacting with native speakers.

2 Your previous exposure to the language or similar languages

3 Any natural ability/gift you may have for learning languages

4 Your method of learning and the learning resources at your disposal and your use of them

5 Your ability to retain what you learn as Ciscocaja rightly said. This is greatly influenced by your application of what you have already just learnt

I would say there are 3 Stages: 1 Learn it: this includes a basic understanding what you have learnt 2. Apply/practise as much as you can understand, and 3 retain it If you try to short-circuit this process by leaving out any of the first 2 stages you will retain nothing since the last stage is dependent on the first two.

This process only applies to intentional/conscious learning.Much of our learning in life takes place without us even being aware of it while we are having interesting discussions with other people and taking in new information This is why living in the country and speaking daily with natives who speak that language is so successful.

These are just some of the key factors that will affect your rate of progress! They key person who can determine your rate of progess is You! wink

Enjoying the journey (ie process o learning) and learning as much as you can along the way is as important if not more important than your arrival at the destination (achievement of non-native fluency... if that is your aim) alt text

I hope this helps grin

  1. This is a great place to start. There are a lot of helpful activities (quizzes, grammar explanations, video explanations, flashcards, etc) that will help you. There are also lots of people willing to help you with any questions you might have concerning Spanish.

  2. You get out what you put in (in regards to learning). How quickly you learn is, to a certain degree, dependent upon you. Eat, sleep, and breath it, lol. Well, make sure you read as much as can and expose yourself to the language. Speak with people (or yourself wink) in Spanish, watch shows in Spanish (great listening practice), and try to get some writing in there while your at it. If you like music, listen to songs in Spanish.

I hope this helps.

  • Sorry. By "video explanations", I meant to say that there are videos explaining different concepts of the Spanish language. - Goldie_Miel Feb 10, 2012 flag

The speed at which you learn, and how well you learn it, really depend on your ability to retain what you learn, and the amount of time you put into it. I've heard over and over that full immersion combined with a formal study program is the quickest way to learn. I believe that to be true. I personally choose to go at a much slower rate. Many of the people here seem to be very knowledgeable and helpful. I wish you the best of luck.
