Te lo he preguntado yo.........

I think it means to say "That's what I was asking you......."

I've asked you that..... I was asking you that.....

I guess it's just a case of "ha sido" = fue type thing.

ha sido un placer = fue un placer. type thing.

So "te lo he preguntado yo" = Wait that doesn't make sense here though.

I would say "Eso te estaba preguntando yo." or better yet "Eso es lo que te estaba preguntando yo."

So how does "Te lo he preguntado yo" act like "Eso es lo que te estaba preguntando yo."?

though I understand the phrase the construction eludes me as Eso es lo que te estaba preguntando yo.seems much better to convey the idea.

I await answers to this good question. It looks to me like "I have asked you", but couldn't this be said without the final "yo"?

I believe you might more commonly hear "Te lo pregunté (yo)". It's not uncommon to hear the preterite in Spanish where you might hear the present perfect in English. In this case you might say "Ya te lo pregunté yo" (I [just] asked you it - that's what I asked you) or "Eso es lo que te preguntaba yo" (That's what I was asking you). I know that the example with the preterite is not a literal translation, but I believe that it conveys the meaning that you are after.
