ASK A QUESTION Comments on the New Spanish Dict Site
It seems the new site has gone from Beta to Alpha... Anyway, I am being directed to it automatically in both Firefox and IE.
It used to be that you could see right on the Q&A page whether someone asking a question was new to the site, what their reputation was, etc. This was very helpful just to make a response. It would be great to put that back without having to click on their user name, get a new page to look at, and then having to go back to the previous page.
If anyone else has similar (hopefully positive) suggestions, please post them.
Thanks,
Jeremy

Does anyone else not see the menu of icons for bolding, quotes, images, etc. in the new version? I am not seeing it in Firefox. I found out through experimentation, however, that you can still make links or post pictures if you do it manually since there are no icons to click on.

- Same here qfreed, can't do much without menu! Why did they change it??? - soytommy Feb 3, 2012 flag
- No, it's gone for me, too. - KevinB Feb 3, 2012 flag
- It's gone, how do you put in a picture or a link. Help. - Stadt Feb 3, 2012 flag
- Seems like this got fixed, now. Still no emoticons window, though. - Gekkosan Feb 3, 2012 flag
Hi Jeremy,
Thanks for the feedback. When you are browsing the Q&A, you can hover your mouse over the user's avatar to see their stats. We wanted to reduce some of the clutter when browsing, but still make it available if you wanted to see it.
Thanks, Chris
- OK, I see. Streamlining is good, but at some point we aren't smart enough to utilize all the clever features of the site! I will say I never found it unwieldy before, and I'm having trouble getting used to this; that could just be my resistance to change - Jeremias Feb 3, 2012 flag
- That's not "clutter"... that's information I look at very frequently!!! - pesta Feb 3, 2012 flag
- I think we all do, Pesta! - MLucie Feb 3, 2012 flag
- Hovering does not work on my touchscreen. I can't see a user's reputation without exiting the screen. Boo! - MLucie Feb 3, 2012 flag
- How about a "clutter free" right side of screen ? - ian-hill Feb 3, 2012 flag
It took me out in the middle of an answer, too. I see nothing on the right side to do with the site. The votes are not sticking. . I just voted up Nicole, but it didn't stick. but the vote I gave to Jeremias did not register and he still has -1.
TBH, I don't like it, it's buggy as hell! Fix the bugs before you put it into Alpha. Ill get used to it, but for the love of God fix the bugs first!
- I'm 100% in agreement. We should not be forced to use a buggy system. This will only chase away visitors to the site. I'll be back in few days. Hopefully I will then be able to use the site without all this unnecessary frustration. - NickDan Feb 3, 2012 flag
Further comments:
As noted, when one votes for someone it isn't recorded on the page, and sometimes shows negative.
When you select a special character from below, you get two characters instead of 1. A bargain, to be sure, but inconvenient. I like though that the characters are bigger
Why do I get two instances of any tilde letter chosen using my mouse?

This site is not ready for prime time. Should have been tested a lot longer before trashing the old site. PLEASE restore the old site until this stuff works!
Well, some things seem to be working better now lol I can vote for people's posts without worrying that I am giving them negative reputation points
The menu of icons directly above the answer box, including bold, hyperlink and picture link all display correctly as do the accents below. It would be great to have the emoticons back again lol
Thank You Chris that you are working on some of these things to improve them! inevitably any new site has teething problems but in retrospect/with the gift of hindsight perhaps it would better not to get rid of the old before the new is working well lol
