I'm traveling this summer, but not sure where yet. I'd like to go somewhere where I can speak to fluent spanish speaking people. Also I love hiking! Can you let me know where a good place to go would be?

Thanks!! grin

What about Costa Rica? I've never been, but both my daughters have, and they loved it. Puerto Rico is fun, too, and it's not international if you're from the U S. Make a point of visiting the Arecibo observatory if you do go there.

I recently went to Monterrey, Mexico. It is a beautiful and very interesting place.

I can only recommend places that I have visited myself. I like all of Mexico and Central America, but the Yucatan Peninsula and the Ruta Maya (Mayan Route) and the Mayan area are above all beautiful. The Copper Canyon in southwest Chihuahua is amazing and is larger than the Grand Canyon of Arizona. Guanajuato is a nice colonial era city but has lots of tourists and many schools that teach Spanish. However, if you keep away from the tourist areas, or at least those tourists that speak English, you may be able to improve your Spanish greatly.

Is Spain an option? If yes, then El Camino de Santiago might be perfect for you. Or hiking in Alpujarras in Sierra Nevada near Granada, the area is amazing, but Andalucian pronunciation might be very challenging as they drop half of consonants ("¿Cómo estás?" sounds just like "Cómo etá", etc.)

mi familia y yo had a fun time a few years ago in Costa Rica. The price to travel is pretty reasonable and there are lots of places to look around and hike, although one needs to be careful
