Or - if you are looking for Spanish - los sobrecargos.

  • Funny - that's the same word as for "surcharge" - I wonder what that says about flight attendants? :) - pesta Jan 31, 2012 flag

I've seen the word "azafata. I'm not sure which countries its used but I know it is used in some Spanish speaking countries.

  • Yes, I have always used this word for air steward/ess - FELIZ77 Jan 30, 2012 flag

Yes, I have always used this word azafata for air steward/ess to describe them. However, with the arrival of male stewards too los sobrecargos o auxiliar(es) de vuelos seems to reflect better the shared responsibilty

sobrecargo/a = flight attendant (male/female)

o auxiliar de vuelo = flight attendant

I hope this helps grin

  • Do they still refer to them (women) as stewardess in England Feliz? Here you would be chastised for anything less than flight attendant. - Yeser007 Jan 30, 2012 flag
  • Well I am not into political correctness Gary. The correct word is probably flight attendants but what can they do if I chose to use a different word? lol - FELIZ77 Jan 31, 2012 flag
  • ...in speaking amoung friends that is. - FELIZ77 Jan 31, 2012 flag

Me dijeron que sobrecargo/a ha reemplazado la palabra "azafata" como éste se considera sexista ahora.

Azafata for Air Stewardess/Air Hostess/Flight Attendant/Cabin Crew member. This is for female members only though it does not have a male version.

Auxiliar de vuelo serves for both male and female members of the cabin crew.

Then of course there's always "Trolly Dolly"!

  • trolly Dolly - good one. A bit pejorative, though. :) - pesta Jan 31, 2012 flag
