I love the Mexican song 'Cielito lindo' and I looked up the lyrics - they also had a translation for them but I am confused. Can anyone shed any light on this please?

What would 'De la sierra morena, cielito lindo, vienen bajandomean? They had it translated as:Through dark tresses, heavenly one...and there was nothing to indicate whatvienen bajando` means.

What would tresses have to do with mountains - as I understood, sierra means mountain. Unless this song is very poetic?

The verse that you are referring to is below. There is the literal translation and I suppose the metaphoric translation

De la Sierra Morena,

Cielito lindo, vienen bajando,

Un par de ojitos negros,

Cielito lindo, de contrabando.

Literal Translation

From the Sierra Morena, (This is a mountain range in Spain)

Pretty darling, they come down,

a pair of black eyes,

Pretty little heaven, which are contraband.

Metaphoric Translation

Through dark tresses, heavenly one,

a pair of deep brown eyes,

lower as they approach, (vienen bajando)

a stolen glance.

Hi. This is the explanation of the song. I learningn english so I hope you can understand me.

De la Sierra Morena, (This line refers to a place, in this case a group of moutains called "Morena")

Cielito lindo, vienen bajando, ("Cielito lindo" is one of many ways that we use to call the person we love or we like so she or he can felt flattered)("vienen bajando", this is the action of getting down of a high place)(This line is about a person who is telling to another one who love that "there is something getting down of the mountains)

Un par de ojitos negros, (This line is simple refers to a person with black eyes)

Cielito lindo, de contrabando. ("Cielito lindo" I explained it before)("De contrabando" says that the person with black little eyes is getting down the mountain on a smuggled way)

Well that is my interpretation of the song in english. I hope you understand it.

I´m from Mexico city and I´m a native spanish speaker.
