In English there is an expression when a child is loosing teeth, we calll them a snagglepuss, you would NOT say it to an adult that didn't have teeth, but it is a fun and sweet expression to use with children, what expression do you use, and from what country? Thank you Sharon Cash

  • Sharon, I think you should re-state that - Here in the Blue Ridge Mountains there is an expression... Believe me, this is NOT a universal expression! :) - Jeremias Jan 4, 2012 flag
  • Ohhh THAT is interesting, I wonder what are the other expressions in the US and what parts? - Sharon-Cash Jan 4, 2012 flag

The Spanish word to describe someone who is missing one or more teeth is mellado, and the RAE notes that it can be used as either a noun or an adjective. I suppose that it might be possible to add a diminutive ending such as "melladito" in order to take some of the sting out of the expression, but I can't really comment on the actual usage or acceptability of such an expression. I did see the expression used in this blog, but aside from this, I did not find much evidence for its use on the Internet.
