In Argentina it sounds more like "sh".

Yo = sho

Llamo = shamo

Playa = plaisha

In Columbia and many parts of Central and South America, it sounds more like a J.

Yo = jo

Llamo= jamo

Playa = plaija

If you get used to doing it both ways, you can begin to see that there's really not much difference.

In many places it's pronounced more like a "y."

Here's a link to regional pronunciation including Spain and Peru. It does not include Argentinian pronunciation.

Okay, I am confused by all the other answers, but I do know what I know from Spanish. Two L's are pronounced like a y and a j is pronounced like an h. Hope that helps!

  • The previous responses are referring to the 'j' as pronounced in English, not Spanish. - samdie Dec 24, 2011 flag
