Hola

Do we use Personal "a" with the infinitive? I mean, do I say me gusta ver a mi hijo? I looked at the reference Personal "a", but it does not include any example with infinitive.

Another thing that I would like to know in the same subject is whether Personal "a" used with every verb in Spanish?

Best regards

Yes, you say' Me gusta ver a mi hijo', but somebody else will have to explain why. They will!

Yes, you will always use the "a". It can also be a non animated subject. "Voy a comer una naranja" Voy a dormir. Voy a lavar la ropa, etc.Voy a saludar a mi abuela, or with a person. Voy a saludar a mi abuela, voy a pelear con mi vecino, voy a charlar con el cartero, etc.

  • "voy a comer" is Not the "personal a". The personal a is used when a person is the object of a verb. - pesta Dec 14, 2011 flag

Voy a comer o voy a ver are equivalent to I am going to eat or am going to go. The "a" in these sentences isn't grammatically the same as the personal "a" as the one preceding "Juan" in the following: voy a ver a Juan.

  • Meant to say voy a ver is equivalent to I am going to see. Sorry. - Ken-Smith Dec 14, 2011 flag

Some posts in this thread have confused the "personal a" and the "a" article used with the informal future "voy a (infinitive verb)".

Review the reference article here on "Personal a".
