Anyone been to Costa Rica ?

Question

I'm going there in January to "home-stay" and learn Spanish. Any hints on Costa Rica?

Check out this link, you can also do a search and find many others. I have never been there, only close, to Panama, and I'm sure it is just as spectacular. They have some of the best scuba diving both in el mar Caribe and the Pacific.

We went to Costa Rica in 2005, and had a fabulous time! We flew into the small airport at Liberia and drove several hours to the Pacific coast, where we rented a house in the small town of Tamarindo. It was July and very hot, so we went to the beach every day. Some of our group rode the zip lines, and the kids took surfing lessons. We ate at open air restaurants; the food was good. My brother speaks fluent Spanish, and he enjoyed conversing with the locals, who were very friendly.

I've been to Costa Rica two times, and it is a wonderful place, especially if you love nature. Monteverde is up in the mountains. It's a laid back small town with visitors from all over the world. You can tour the rainforest and cloud forest, and if you are lucky you will see a quetzal. Samara is another great little town with a nice beach. From there you can rent a scooter and ride to Playa Corrillo. It's a lovely beach and kind of off the beaten path. One time my husband and I went, and we were the only people there. The Arenal area is fun because of the hot springs and the volcano, but it is very touristy. I recommend the Baldi hot springs, only because they are cheaper than Tabacon and still really nice. I sound like I work for a Costa Rican tourist agency, but it really is a lovely country. Oh, and also--there are monkeys!!!
